此变速箱用有130多项专利技术，拥有全速区锁止离合器，减少加速时的动力损失。
变速箱由Hyundai Powertech变速箱公司出品， 技术为现代自我知识产权。摩擦片材料由博格华纳公司独家提供.
型号分为A8LR1和A8TR1， 前者对应3.8GDI（包含2.0T)， 后者对应4.6MPI和5.0 GDI，工作最大扭距不同。结构相同。
2012款LK 上应该是A8LR1变速箱。

The New Fuel-Saving 8-Speed Automatic Transmission of Hyundai A remarkable evolution and transmission technology Hyundai’s 8-speed automatic transmission, FR type 8-speed automatic transmission has been developed by Hyundai Motor. The concept features a unique layout and incorporates about 130 technology innovations which have been patented. It’s a multi step design with a wide gear span and skip shift capability to achieve better fuel economy and performance. The transmission has eight forward speeds and one reverse. Using four clutches, two breaks and a single one way clutch engaging two of them for each direction, a forward and one reverse. Moving components are highlighted when shifting from first to eighth gear and then into reverse. The torque converter is a crucial link. in transferring power from the engine through the automatic transmission. Enhanced lock up strategy with more precise control of the turbine damper clutch improves fuel economy even during deceleration. The plastic oil pan is integrated with the oil filter for weight reduction. The 8-speed automatic transmissions valve body has six direct control solenoids. Direct control solenoid valves can supply hydraulic pressure to the clutches directly without valve body spool valves. By using direct control solenoid valves, it is possible to achieve smoother shift quality by reducing pressure variation as well his terraces by as much as 40% compared to previous hydraulically controlled systems. Another new convenience feature of the 8-speed automatic is the “Shift By Wire” system. This system allows the automatic transmission to be controlled by electronic systems instead of mechanical cables. The “Shift By Wire” system enhances the value of the vehicle by increasing driver convenience. Driving conditions are optimized with the increase gear span which improves both fuel economy and performance. Enhanced engagement at very low engine speed improves NVH levels and fuel economy with reduced emissions as well as improving acceleration performance, drive ability and shift quality. 关于锁止离合器：
只要满足图中的条件，液力变矩器里的锁止离合器就锁定，传递效率约=MT传递效率（行星齿轮本身效率要低于单齿）
在阴影部分下为锁止区域（黄色为老款6AT锁定区域， 蓝色为8AT增加的锁定区域)
1：在15公里时速时，油门深度小于60%时就锁定
2： 在15～37公里时速区间，取决于油门深度（例如在30公里时速，油门小于90%就锁定）
3：大于37公里时速时，任何油门深度都锁定。
新款LK 第一个表就是油门深度表，大家可以看到节气门开度在百分之多少～～
锁定的好处： 动力传递直接，类似MT离合器。
不锁定区间： 软连接，靠液力变矩器油的动能驱动涡轮带动变速箱，损失一定能量。
百公里加速性能：2500转弹射策略，90%油门左右，在30公里时速时锁止（大约起步后1.5秒就完全锁定）
也就是说原地起步最快1.5秒以后的传递效率就和MT相等了。(不考虑行星齿轮组本身的传递效率，因为新型齿轮组齿轮咬合的数目要多于手动档单齿轮的咬合数目）
